Senior Tax Accountant

BCM One is seeking a driven, and highly motivated Senior Tax Accountant to join our growing tax and regulatory team.

    As a Senior Tax Accountant, you will analyze source data from multiple billing systems, record tax transactions in the accounting software, reconcile tax general ledger accounts for multiple entities and prepare Telecommunications specific Federal and State tax returns. You will also play an integral role in the accounting close for assigned entities and their related tax accruals.

    What you will do:

    • Prepare moderately complex to complex Federal quarterly and annual returns as governed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for assigned BCM One reporting entities.
    • Prepare logical tax return workbooks demonstrating auditable, explainable, and defendable positions as reported on FCC filings.
    • Manage general ledger accounts by reconciling indirect Federal and State tax payable accounts and revenue accounts to revenues and gross receipts reported on FCC forms 499A & 499Q.
    • Maintain tax liability schedules and alert controllership of corrective actions or accruals needed in assigned accounts.
    • Reconcile bank account activity against liability accounts and cash collections reported on FCC forms.
    • Create journal entries and supporting documentation, and once approved post to the accounting system.
    • Work directly with entity leaders to maintain product list taxability and ensure tax rating is working as prescribed in multiple billing and tax systems.
    • Work cross departmentally with Engineering and IT groups to analyze & interpret billing data and decide corrective actions needed to maintain compliance with FCC regulations.
    • Engage with industry colleagues to understand and implement Telecommunications reporting and accounting requirements.
    • Facilitate dialogue with regulatory agencies, legal parties, and general counsel to interpret guidelines and offer observations and actions needed to maintain compliance with Telecommunications laws.
    • Assist with and manage FCC audits, reviews, and inquiries about revenues, exemptions, and tax ratings, reported on quarterly and annual filings.
    • Maintain regular tracking of open and resolved regulatory issues and financial implications, and review with legal and management teams.   
    • Maintain regular industry education and knowledge by attending seminars, researching tax topics, and reviewing declaratory rulings.
    • Participate in the design, implementation, and evaluation of indirect tax strategy, tax reporting, and regulatory requirements across entities.

    • Ability to maintain strong communication and interaction on implementations, audits, and corrective actions of a regulatory and tax nature.
    • Capable of flourishing in a fast-paced, complex environment and willing to adapt to changing circumstances, information, and challenges. 

    What you will need:

    • 4+ years of accounting experience in audit or indirect taxation with a SALT focus preferred.
    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
    • CPA certification required.
    • Proficient knowledge of tax-on-tax topics, regulatory compliance, exemptions management, and sales & use tax laws.
    • Strong familiarity with accounting systems such as Sage Intacct, Netsuite.
    • Strong Excel skills and technology abilities (Pivot tables, Power BI, V-lookups, Macros, etc.)
    • Experience with outsourced billing and tax rating systems (Avalara, SureTax, Rev.IO, IDI)
    • Deadline oriented with a strong attention to detail. 
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact with employees at all levels as well as customers, vendors and other external stakeholders.
