In our previous post, we shared a few articles on the role technology is playing in a few specific industries. But every industry—every company, in fact—is being affected right now. In particular, with so many employees now working from home, there are few types of technologies that are playing an expanded role. And this unprecedented shift is teaching some fast lessons in real time. We wanted to share a few articles we found which include insights that might be useful.
Communications and Voice Connectivity
Unified communications as a service (UCaaS) had been gaining in popularity in recent years to help keep employees connected, collaborating, and productive from anywhere. For companies that already have UCaaS systems in place, it may be just a matter of increasing access. For others, however, it requires acquiring and turning up new systems quickly. In either case, No Jitter published a useful article on 6 best-practice guidelines for remote work programs.
For those companies that don’t have a remote communications infrastructure in place, SIP trunking could be an excellent option. This article on Customer Service Amid a Pandemic: The Good, Bad and the Ugly from a UK-based publication is relevant for US-based businesses, too. Among other things, the author discusses how SIP trunking helps keep customer service and call center teams connected during the COVID-19 crisis—and those systems can be activated very quickly.
Data Connectivity
WAN Summit New York, which was supposed to be in early March, was postponed due to COVID-19 and a slimmed-down virtual conference was held instead. One of the conclusions drawn at the event is companies that have already moved to SD-WAN are finding it easier to implement remote working in the face of the coronavirus epidemic. This provides validation that SD-WAN can, in fact, help improve the ability of IT teams to adapt quickly and to push more bandwidth at less cost.
